Chiptuning your motorcycle’s engine: Which errors should be avoided?

It can be very tempting to start chiptuning to get as much performance as possible from your vehicle. Especially when it comes to motorcycles. The fact is, that such initiatives should be undertaken only after considering all the pros and cons. Only in this way can you avoid the most common mistakes.

Find reliable sources

Many sites and online platforms offer chiptuning services. The problem is that many of these sources are far from reliable. Either lack of professionalism, or lack of competence, or in bad faith, some platforms offer potentially dangerous maps for sale for your engine.

Have a clear roadmap

Too often, people who are considering chiptuning their engines do not have a clear vision of what they want to do. Certainly, you want to have more performance or better fuel consumption. But still, how do you intend to do it? Will it be a question of deactivating the EGR valve, modifying the valves or the flowmeter?

This lack of vision sometimes pushes them to choose solutions that are poorly adapted for their vehicle, or are poorly adapted for the terrain on which they typically drive. In the best of cases, these operations will be futile; in the worst cases, they will be counterproductive.

Unrealistic expectations

Chiptuning can bring significant performance gains and improved fuel economy. But that does not mean that you must expect these performances to be increased tenfold, or that the vehicle can go hundreds of kilometers with one full tank.

It’s this lack of realistic expectations that drives some vehicle owners to engage in ever more ambitious and potentially dangerous chiptuning. This is an error that can be avoided by inquiring about the kind of gains one can expect from a well-conducted chiptuning.
