Commercial vehicles are mostly used for business purposes, particularly by companies for their large storage capacities.
These vehicles travel huge distances and sometimes for days or even weeks before arriving at their destination. This requires a strong demand for fuel which affects the monthly expenses of the holding company. So, for economic reasons, many utility drivers want to both maintain their engine for as long as possible and decrease their fuel consumption. Thus, two methods are generally used by most professionals including: the chiptuning of the engine and the installation of an additional gearbox.
Reducing fuel consumption
Chiptuning the engine, which consists of reinstalling or modifying the original map allows for a more efficient increase in torque by increasing the power and decreasing the consumption. But when such modifications are discovered during the inspection, they result in the loss of the manufacturer’s warranty.
The use of an additional gearbox in these diesel engines has the same advantages as chiptuning with some differences. Thus, it provides better performance than the original configuration. In addition, the original cartography of the computer is left intact because the additional box is responsible for transmitting false data to the latter so that it allows a more efficient use of the engine by inhibiting the various motor limiters installed by the manufacturer. Moreover, this method avoids the loss of the manufacturer’s warranty and the advantage of being unplugged as if nothing had happened.
The two methods, although different, have the advantages of increasing engine power and torque and, above all, a significant reduction in fuel consumption of the order of 30 to 40%.
